The word "aerophotogrammetry" is made up of the compound words "aero", "photo" and "grammetry".

“Aero” originally comes from Greek and refers to air and/or flight.

Furthermore, "photo" describes the photograph or recording of a scenery or one or more objects in three-dimensional space in order to then capture them visually in two dimensions.

The word suffix "-gram" also has Greek origins and in this sense means "written" or "writing".

Consequently, a retention for posterity is to be understood.
